Anna Woomer is this week’s Athlete of the Week
“Awesome; solid on the basics on field; takes everything like a champ; no complaints; no taking the team down; very coachable; doesn’t question coaching decisions; a team player,” said Varsity Girls’ soccer coach, Larry White.
He was talking about junior, Anna Woomer, this week’s Fruita Canyon Dental Athlete of the Week.
Now this junior is like many teens: favorite food, pizza; music, country and alternate; literature, stories about real life; movies, comedy especially Dane Cook.
She enjoys her family. Her older sister, who played soccer, is in college at Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska. Her younger brother, a freshman, plays soccer and her brother in grade seven plays Lacrosse and football. Dad, Tod, was a high school wrestler at Grand Junction High School. Mom, Romaine, was a gymnast.
Anna started her soccer game at age five.
“My mom and my Uncle Tom Woomer were my coaches those years,” she said.
Anna played soccer and basketball until this year when she concentrated on soccer.
School is a good place to be since she loves history and language. College looms in the future with the idea that she might like to become a teacher or get into business.
Anna enjoys teaching, in fact she and a friend volunteered to coach boys’ basketball at Holy Family School as well as the girls’ basketball team.
“This taught me what I can do by example,” she said.
Since she does not really have time to watch professional sports, she doesn’t have a favorite sports figure.
“I would love to see a professional basketball game. I love hockey,” she said.
Anna went on to talk about soccer.
“I love the game,” she said. “Soccer gets your adrenaline going. It allows creativity and flow of play, and it’s great to make friends with the team. Soccer tests you.”
For now, Anna intends to keep doing what she does. She hopes her family will be happy in whatever they do. She hopes that when she is out in the world with a career, people will see her as a nice, respectable, intelligent and fun-loving person. She hopes to have a positive impact on people and on life. Considering her achievements thus far, she will reach her goals. Congratulations go out to this athlete of the week.
