Charlie The Cat Thinks…

Well it’s that time of year again. Yep, it’s the end of the school year for all of those kiddos and a longer weekend for all of us working folks. Thank goodness for Memorial Day because I have been waiting for a break. This weekend should be nice to lie out in the sun all day and just relax since I didn’t get to last weekend. That Mike the Headless Chicken Festival tuckered me out.

You know I thought I was in good shape but that 5K sure proved me wrong. Not to mention I’m not used to getting up so early. I almost missed the start of the race because I slept in. I got a lot of funny looks when I was running the race. I guess I must have looked like a chicken running with his head cut off more than I thought I did. Running a race like that really makes you admire those who can finish it in less than twenty minutes. I hope that I will be able to do that someday. Practice makes perfect so I guess I got to practice more, however, I think I’ll let myself sleep in a little longer in the mornings.

Back to the subject of Memorial Day, did you know that Memorial Day was once called Declaration Day? The idea of it has always remained the same however. Since I didn’t know much about the holiday other than it’s to remember our fallen heroes, I decided to look up the history of it online. Turns out there are some disputes over when and where it originated. Well, whoever came up with it must have been very thankful of all of the men and women who have fought and died for our country. Yet it seems that like many holidays people have forgotten what the day actually stands for. Now most people just see it as the beginning of summer and an extra day off. So my request to all of you is when you are out having fun this weekend take a moment to remember why you are able to do so. After all, our country would not be where we are today without those who have fought for our country.
