Charlie The Cat Thinks…

I just have one thing to say: I love summer! It is probably my favorite season. Although I always think that the current season is my favorite. But I really do love summer. So far I have enjoyed many of the regular summer activities such as biking, hiking, swimming, boating, grilling, running through the sprinklers, and all of those great activities. There is one thing I haven’t conquered yet and that is a road trip. But with these raging gas prices it costs and arm and a leg just to get around town a couple of times. Still I think that one of these days I’m just going to have to do it. I wonder what would be a good place to go visit.

What I would really love to do is travel across the country. You know I honestly think I was born a few decades late. I would have loved to travel on Route 66 back in its glory days. Yes, those were the days, back when family road trips happened every summer and you got to see the heart and soul of America. Now you don’t see much more than the pump and the fuel gage flashing empty. I guess I will just have to be satisfied with somewhere close. There are some really pretty places to visit this time of year. Being Coloradans we really are blessed with a beautiful state. You know I hear that Gunnison and Blue Mesa is especially pretty this time of year. Maybe Cal and I could go there. Blue Mesa is said to have some good fishing this time of year. Of course I’ll have to rent a boat. Hmm… maybe I should just invest in a canoe. I think I would use it enough. Paddling would keep me physically fit too.

Oh! I almost forgot! I would like to wish Elisabeth Keil a very happy birthday on June 22 she will turn 88. Her daughter stopped in the office the other day and told me how much her mother loves reading my column. That makes me feel so special. Also I would like to say hello to all of Elizabeth’s friends out in California to whom she sends my column. I do appreciate all of the love and support. It’s good to be loved!
