Hometown newspapers win Colorado Press Awards

All roads led to Denver this past weekend, with the convening of the 132nd Colorado Press Convention. Mesa County’s newspapers were represented with The Daily Sentinel, Free Press, Palisade Tribune, and Fruita Times in attendance. A resounding message was delivered from speakers and attendees that the newspaper business is alive and well: Readers and residents still are anxious for news about their communities . . .

Writer Hannah Odneal and Fruita Times/Palisade Tribune publisher Bob Sweeney attended the convention, where Hannah won two first place awards, one for Best Editorial and one for Best Special Section. Also in attendance were Fruita Times/Palisade Tribune graphic artist Nathan Carson, who also won a first place award for the same Special Section as Hannah, and Fruita Times News Editor Debbie Roberts, who received a Second Place Award for Best Series.
